Classes

We will be holding our second all night sew on Friday, April 1st, from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am Saturday, April 2nd. We will be using the “ginger stalks” pattern by beyond the reef. The cost of the class includes fabric for the quilt top and binding, pattern, dinner, breakfast, snacks, and door prizes. This class will be limited to 16. Our Blue Moon all night sew was a sellout and we had a waiting list. Don’t wait too long to reserve your spot.

This six week class teaches “classic” quilt blocks like the Triple Rail, the Log Cabin, Churn Dash and the Ohio Star as well as 5 other blocks that make up the 12-block sampler quilt. Students will learn how to select fabrics, use a rotary cutter, chain piece, strip piece and add borders. The class is for the true beginner or for someone interested in freshening up their skills.

Machine Embroidery – We heard so many comments from our customers about all they had to get done before Christmas last year, we thought that we would try to help you spread your creativity throughout the year. We have set aside the 4th Thursday of the month for our Christmas Workshop. The classroom will be available from 10 – 4 and Bonnie will be here from 10-2 each month to help you with your projects. Many of you have a list of machine embroidery items that you did not complete in time for last Christmas, but for those that are starting fresh this year, we will have some ideas to get you started.

Have you considered sewing some clothes for you or your family? Did you make clothes in the past, but it has been a long time and you would like to try it again? Laurie has found a vest pattern that will give you the taste of garment sewing without a great deal of stress. This pattern can be done in all one fabric or take a look at Laurie’s sample, many fabrics that make it a one of a kind. Bring a sack lunch and put it in our refrigerator or plan on picking something up at one of the restaurants near us, as class will take a lunch break.

Spend the day stitching at Sunshine Stitches. This is open sewing – you can’t do laundry, clean the house, or any of the other things that interfere with our stitching! We will provide beverages and great company!

Do you own Floriani Software? Join our Floriani User Group on the 2nd Saturday of the month from 10:00am -11:30am. This group will watch a short video that teaches different ways to use the software. After the video we discuss the project, hold an open forum to learn from each other, and show and tell any projects you have been working on and/or completed.

This is a great modern quilt for any skill level. Our sample quilt is made from the Shalimar line of fabric. We have the sample made up of beautiful paisley and animal prints. Becky will get you off to a great start from 10-2, but if you have the whole day, you are welcome to work independently for the rest of day.

Scan N Cut - Do you own a Scan N Cut? Here is the class for you! This is an adorable 16”x 23” miniature that will brighten up any room in your home. In this 2 part class, we will cut out the shapes used in the mini wall hanging and learn some tips and tricks on using the machine to cut fabric in the 1st class. During the 2nd class Sam will help you put it all together.

Sign up for our Seasonal Silhouettes Block of the Month and come and work on your blocks. Becky or Brooke will be in the classroom showing you how they created the store sample and helping you as you complete these beautiful blocks by Edyta Sitar. Once you have completed the 12 blocks you can put them together to make one large quilt, create 3 smaller wall hangings or finish each one individually. The class fee includes the fabric and Steam a Seam for that month’s block. Book purchase is required.

A great pattern from Gudrun Erla of GE Designs book Strip your Stash. All you need is 2 1/2” strips and some background fabric. Do you have a Jelly Roll or Bali Pop just waiting for a project? Here is a great pattern for you. This pattern can be made in any size from a crib to a king size quilt. Carol will work with you until 2:00, but feel free to stay and continue to work on it the rest of the day.

This is one of the most popular quilts of all time and is a great way to save those t-shirts that make you smile every time you see them. This class will show you how to plan out your quilt, how to prepare the shirts, and how to crop and cut the shirts. Even though these quilts look hard, this project is great for beginners.

All of your t-shirts are stabilized and in blocks – what now? This class helps figuring out the end product, the fabric required, how to cut sashing and sewing everything together. Students will need to have their t-shirt blocks prepared and bring their sewing machine.

We are changing up our UFO Challenge this year. Join us on the last Friday of the month (except Feb.) to work on your UFO’s. While you are sewing in our classroom receive a 10% discount on your regular price purchases. The Omaha Modern Quilt Guild was established in 2012 to help promote the modern quilting movement in the Omaha area. Our guild is focused on developing the modern aesthetic of quilting within our members and our community. Modern quilting is a new and rapidly growing movement in the quilting world. We welcome all quilters to come to our meetings. Whether you are experienced in modern design, or just looking to expand your quilting horizons please come join us. It is our hope that you will leave embracing this new movement and ready to create something unique.

Our purpose is simply to assemble quilt tops for veterans and service members touched by war. You can bring your own Quilts of Valor project to work on, or you can work on a Quilt kit that will be provided. Come prepared for a fun day of quilting. The Quilts of Valor group meets on the 1st Wednesday each month from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm and the 3rd Thursday from 6:00 pm -9:00 pm.
